Pet Therapy 2025 Calendar Fundraiser Project for BC Children’s & Women’s hospitals

I want share a project that is not only close to my heart but also promises to make a significant impact in our community.

As a portrait photographer, I’ve had the privilege of working on countless meaningful projects, but this one stands out. I’m currently in the process of creating a very special calendar for 2025 that will benefit the BC Children’s and Women’s hospitals and bring much-needed attention to their incredible Pet Therapy program.

The Pet Therapy Program at BC Children’s Hospital

The idea for this calendar came from a desire to give back to a community that does so much for our children. BC Children’s and Women’s hospitals have always held a special place in my heart, and when I learned about the Pet Therapy program, I knew I wanted to be involved in any way I could.

The Pet Therapy program at BC Children’s and Women’s hospitals brings trained animals, mostly dogs, to visit patients. These animals provide comfort, joy, and companionship to children and their families who are going through incredibly challenging times. The bond between these children and the therapy animals is nothing short of magical.

Photography for the Calendar Project

This calendar project has been a labor of love from the start. I’ve spent the last few months photographing 13 beautiful and touching portraits, one for each month of the year along with a beautiful cover image.

Each portrait features a current or former patient of BC Children’s and Women’s hospitals alongside one of the therapy animals from the program. Most of these wonderful animals are dogs, but we also have a very special rabbit and an adorable cat who have joined in on the fun. The sessions have been filled with laughter, playfulness, and some truly heartwarming moments that I can’t wait to share with all of you.

What makes this project so special?

Every photo session has been an opportunity to witness firsthand the incredible impact these animals have on the children. The smiles, the laughter, and the moments of calm are powerful reminders of how much these visits mean to the patients. Whether it’s a gentle retriever snuggling up to a little one, a bunny bringing giggles during a tough day, or a cat softly purring by a child’s side, these animals bring a sense of normalcy and joy to the hospital environment.

The calendar is not just about beautiful portraits; it’s about telling the stories of these children and their animal companions. It’s about raising awareness for a program that brings light into some of the darkest moments. And, of course, it’s about raising funds to ensure that BC Children’s and Women’s hospitals can continue to provide this incredible service.

How you can help

We’re aiming to launch the calendar at the end of October, just in time for holiday gift-giving! All proceeds from the sales will go directly to the BC Children’s and Women’s hospitals Pet Therapy program.

By purchasing a calendar, you’ll be contributing to a cause that directly improves the lives of families facing health challenges. But that’s not all—your support will also help spread the word about the Pet Therapy program, which could lead to the recruitment of new therapy pets to visit the hospital.

As we prepare for the calendar’s release, I’ll be sharing more behind-the-scenes moments, sneak peeks, and stories from the sessions. I hope you’ll follow along and help us create a buzz around this project. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of these children and ensure that the Pet Therapy program continues to thrive.

Stay tuned for more updates, and mark your calendars for the end of October—you won’t want to miss this chance to support such an amazing cause!

With heartfelt thanks,

Jane
